PARK RIDGE BASEBALL/SOFTBALL POST - SEASON ALL-STAR SELECTION GUIDELINES

Participation on any of the Tournament teams representing Park Ridge Baseball/Softball is a privilege afforded to approximately 10% of our players. The teams are selected by the managers of each league based on criterion established by the Board of Directors. Players should have good character in addition to outstanding athletic ability for their age group.

TYPES OF ALL STARS

1. Warrior/Pistol Travelers - Chosen via tryouts in September
2. Post Season Tournament All Star
3. Post Season In House all Star

The selection process will take place as follows when time permits:

1. Managers will nominate their best player (s) for the age group. A player with character or an attendance issue in practice or games will not be eligible to be on the ballot. ANY PLAYER THAT MISSES 4 OR MORE GAMES (FULL OR PARTIAL) WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR THE BALLOT*

2. Each manager may nominate players that he/she feels has the qualities to be in the top 12 of the age group. The League President will discuss nominees with the Manager, but will be the final authority for balloting the individual. Players that will not be available for the all star tourneys should not be placed on the ballot, nor should they be automatically be replaced by someone else on the ballot.

3. The League or the manager, if necessary, will provide game statistics and other pertinent facts supporting the nomination.

4. The initial ballot will be provided to each manger for the first vote, which can be prior to the meeting. This vote will be for up to 12 players. Discussion between managers, or lobbying for certain players during this process will not be tolerated. The manager should vote based on the facts presented and his/her observations on the players. This vote is for players that the Managers feel make this team, no questions asked.

5. A meeting of the managers will be held to select the team. Any player that receives 80% of the votes on the initial ballot will be placed on the team. The remaining balloted players will be placed into discussion without their initial vote totals being shown. If any manager feels a player is not on the ballot that should be, it will be brought to the attention of the League President at this time for explanation for leaving the player off or inclusion on the ballot.

6. The managers will then discuss the players remaining on the ballot. Each manager will speak on behalf of his or her nominees. Discussion on all the players that takes place is strictly confidential.

7. After all discussion, a second ballot will be taken. Each manager will vote for the number of openings remaining on the team. The manager must vote for the exact number, and only for players on the ballot. All players that receive greater than 50% of the votes will be placed on the team. This process will continue until the team is filled.

8. The League President can remove players from the ballot that are only receiving a small amount of votes on each ballot. If the League President feels the voting has deadlocked, he/she will make the final decision on the roster.

9. There will be no alternates selected. If the manager of the All-Star team feels they will be short players, the matter will be brought to the attention of the League President. The League President will fill the vacancy from balloted players that fit the need of the team. Once a player is placed on the team, they will remain on the team for the duration of the all star season and participate like any other team member.

10. The managers will select the IN HOUSE ALL-STARS when the above process has been completed. The total number of all stars that a league will have will be divided equally among the teams. i.e. If each team is to have four all stars, and Team A has one player on the tournament team, the manager of team A will provide 3 members to the in house gala.

*non placement on the ballot can be appealed to the Commissioner
